Girls living in coastal areas of Bangladesh are at risk of being displaced due to natural disasters, interrupting their education and making them more vulnerable.
Munir’s approach
Munir is an Open Source enthusiast and founded the Bangladesh Open Source Network with the aim of expanding digital literacy and skills for women and girls. He is working closely with other Bangladeshi education advocates to create a STEM friendly education ecosystem in Bangladesh.
Since it was established in 2005, the Bangladesh Open Source Network has implemented nationwide projects targeting young people to explore STEM education and develop technical skills. They have a robust network of volunteers, mentors and staff who are committed in building a digital Bangladesh. They have spearheaded projects for girls and women focused on robotics, coding and science.
With their Malala Fund grant, Bangladesh Open Source Network aims to give secondary school girls access to smart devices and the internet and equip them with digital knowledge and technological training to help them access information required for their education, personal safety and knowledge in a climate vulnerable context.
